Reliable Safety Gates For Any Home

KidCo launched the very first metal child safety gate to the US market almost 30 years ago in 1994, setting a precedent to parents across the nation of quality products for child safety. Their line of child safety and security gates will cover all your requirements for keeping your kid safe; from top of stairs safety to high traffic or large locations.

All of their gates include added-on functions to ensure a high level of security and safety for any child around the house. The standard suggested age of use with most child safety gates is from birth to 24 months.

Why Install A Hardware-Mounted Safety Gate

Hardware mounted gates are a great solution for the top of stairs and in areas around the home where your young child can potentially fall down from a higher level. As they are permanently installed to the baluster or wall, hardware-mounted safety gates offer additional security, and peace of mind, where safety is paramount in your home. Hardware mount gates also work fantastic in high traffic doorways and hallways.  We advise all new parents to purchase a hardware-mounted gate and install immediately in order to establish a basic level of security and safety around the home for their children as they grow up.

Three No’s When Installing A Safety Gate Inside Your Home

Don’t Make Your Own Child Safety Gate

We never advise parents to use a DIY-approach to their child safety products.  It’s important to use industry-standard safety products around the home in order to protect your child from potential accidents.

Don’t Rely On Them ONLY At The Top Of Stairwells

Children and toddlers are naturally curious and tend to wander around the home unsupervised. When they have simple access to the bottom of a staircase, they're most likely going to try climbing them up and create potential for a dangerous accident like falling back down the steps.

Don’t Install Your Safety Gate Too High Off The Ground

Sometimes parents like to leave a big gap under child gates to accommodate baseboards or pets. This means kids can crawl below or in some cases, get stuck underneath the safety gate and get hurt. Keep the area between the bottom of the gate and the floor to less than three inches to avoid these potential accidents occurring inside your home.

More Safety Tips To Keep Children Safer At Home

Teach Your Child With These Valuable Safety Lessons

Parents with young children in their home need to focus on protecting their children by following these easy procedures.  Not only do products like our child safety gates help protect young children, explaining the rules of the house is equally important to keeping children safe at home.

Don’t play around the steps or doorways

Children who play around the stairs or doorways of the home are more likely to experience a dangerous situation.  Products like our child safety gates help protect the stairway and doorway to block children from entering or falling down.

Stay out of rooms with furniture or other hazards without parental supervision

Another important child safety tip to follow is to educate children inside the rooms that are out of limits.  Rooms with furniture, appliances, and tools can create serious threats to children’s safety.  Use our child safety gate to block children from entering rooms like this.

Follow the CDC Guidelines!

In a recent study, falling is one of the leading causes of unintentional death amongst young children.  When children are near stairs, you need to actively supervise them and hold their hands or assist them as they go up or down the stairs.

How To Install Your New KidCo Angle Mount Safeway Child Safety Gate

Child safety gates protect children from staircases, doorways, and other dangerous areas of the home.  They can help keep babies and children away from certain rooms and corralled into safe rooms that allow adults to supervise them.  Learn how to install your new child safety gate now.

Install hardware-mounted child gates

To install a pressure-mounted child gate, you will need to measure the length of the door frame or wall that the child gate will be used for.  After measuring the length, find the stud or door frame that will hold the gate in place and screw the mounts or hinges.  Then simply assemble the child safety gate and connect them to the mounts or hinges.

Install pressure-mounted child gates

To install a pressure-mounted child gate, first you have to measure the length of the opening where you’d like to mount the child gate.  After assembling the child gate, simply extend the gate to fit the opening you measured and your pressure-mounted child gate will be installed.

Hardware-mounted Gates v.s. Pressure-mounted Gates

Learn the difference between hardware-mounted and pressure-mounted child safety gates

Children falling from stairs is the leading cause of hospital visits for children under the age of 3.  This makes it important to keep the stairs inside any home safe from these dangerous accidents that involve children.

Hardware-mounted Gates

For the top of the staircase, we suggest sticking with hardware-mounted gates.  These gates are screwed into the walls or doorways, and are extremely durable and will stay in place.  They require more effort to install, but their stability and reliability make up for the time spent setting it up.

To guarantee children can’t fall down the stairs, install a hardware-mounted child safety gate at the top of the stairwell.

Pressure-mounted Gates

For less dangerous locations, pressure-mounted gates are good to install and protect young children in the home.  Pressure-mounted child gates are held together across the stairwell or door well by the pressure they give against the doorframe or wall. Although less secure than hardware-mounted gates, these gates are good around the areas of the home where falling down the stairs or ledge isn’t a major concern.  These areas can be between two rooms on the same level of the home or room.  Another good area of pressure-mounted gates is at the bottom of the staircases to prevent children from going up the steps.

In addition to this, you can use pressure-mounted gates to block children from entering or leaving certain areas of the home, and to keep pets out of rooms as well.  We advise homeowners not to install pressure-mounted gates at the top of stairwells in case they break or fall apart, leaving the danger of children falling down the steps or adults tripping down the steps.
