Product Recall: Walker Edison Twin Cottage Bunk Bed

Product Recall: Walker Edison Twin Cottage Bunk Bed

In previous blog posts, we’ve talked about safe sleep environments for babies, but this latest news alert has to do with children’s beds, not cribs and bassinets.  A bunk bed sold by many popular retailers is being recalled due to a falling risk.

It is always our goal to alert our Child Safety Store readers of any potential hazard or concern involving their children’s safety. Therefore, take a look below at the details regarding a recent recall of Walker Edison bunk beds.

What Item Was Recalled?

A specific model of bunk beds by the furniture brand Walker Edison has been recalled.  The wood “Cottage”-style product connects two twin beds with an integrated ladder down the side of it. This allows for two people to sleep, but uses only the floor space of one bed. The bunk beds were sold in blue, brown, red and white.

Why Was the Walker Edison Twin Cottage Bunk Bed Recalled?

Walker Edison has recalled these bunk beds after two reported falling incidents.  While no injuries were reported, the potential for someone getting hurt is greater than the risk.  In the two reported incidents, the bunk bed’s support boards broke.

What To Do if You Have This Item

These slatted wooden beds were sold in by popular retailers, including Walmart.com and Target.com. The model number is printed on a label on the inside of the bed rail or footboard: blue (BWTOTCOTBU), brown (BWTOTCOTES), red (BWTOTCOTRD) and white (BWTOTCOTWH). If you have one of the recalled items, you should stop using the bed right away and contact Walker Edison.  They will arrange for the free installation of a replacement product.
