Product Recall Alert: Bio Source Naturals Essential Oils (Wintergreen and Birch)

Product Recall Alert: Bio Source Naturals Essential Oils (Wintergreen and Birch)

Unfortunately, it’s time for us to alert you about another product recall. At Child Safety Store, our goal is to always make you aware of threats to your child’s safety. Sometimes that means that we alert you of items in your home that can potentially be dangerous.  Today’s product safety recall is for the Wintergreen and Birch varieties of Bio Source Naturals Essential Oils. We’ve discussed a very similar essential oils recall from a different company earlier this year from BioFinest. Now let’s look at why Bio Source Naturals is also recalling some of their essential oils.

Why Are These Bio Source Naturals Essential Oils Being Recalled?

Bio Source Naturals Wintergreen and Birch Essential Oils are being recalled due to a potential poison risk. As with the last recall for BioFinest brand oils, these bottles of Bio Source Naturals Essential Oils contain a chemical known as methyl salicylate. If ingested by a child, this substance is poisonous. Now, it is perfectly fine that this product contains methyl salicylate, but the issue today is the packaging. When it comes to harsh chemicals, child-safe packaging is critically important. You never know what is going to make young children curious. In this case, the packaging of the Bio Source Naturals Essential Oils was not adequate for preventing potential accidents.

What to Do if You Own Wintergreen or Birch Bio Source Naturals Essential Oils

According to the official recall alert from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), anyone who owns an affected bottle of Wintergreen or Birch Bio Source Naturals Essential Oils should immediately get the packaging away from children. The company is working to fix the issue, but parents should be aware of the threat. If there is even a hint of danger, a product should be kept in a locked cabinet, far away from curious little hands. Fortunately, there haven’t been any reported injuries yet, but that can change if parents don’t remain vigilant.
